FAQ

Everything You Want to Know Before You Move

Straightforward answers to help you plan your move with confidence and avoid common surprises.
What is the difference between local and long-distance moving?

Local moves typically cover distances under 100 miles and are billed hourly. Long-distance moves cross state lines or exceed 100 miles and are usually priced by weight and total mileage. Your coordinator will clarify which category applies and what to expect from each.

Can I leave clothes inside my dresser during the move?

It depends on the dresser. Lightweight dressers can sometimes be moved with clothes inside if the drawers are secured. Heavier pieces should be emptied to reduce weight and prevent structural damage. When in doubt, ask your crew on moving day.

How do I get an accurate quote?

The most accurate quotes come from a full inventory of your belongings, your origin and destination addresses, and any access details like stairs, elevators, or long carries. The more specific you are, the closer the estimate will be to the final charge.

Do I need to be present during the entire move?

We recommend being available at the start and end of the move to walk through the home with the crew and confirm item placement at the destination. You don’t need to stand over the movers throughout, but being reachable by phone during the job is helpful.

How are large appliances handled?

Refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other large appliances are disconnected, secured, and transported with proper equipment. If an appliance requires a plumber or electrician to disconnect before moving, we recommend arranging that in advance.

What should I do with items I don't want to move?

Items you plan to donate, sell, or discard should be separated before the crew arrives. Clearly label anything you don’t want loaded so there is no confusion on moving day. We can advise on local donation options if needed.

Can you move items from a storage unit?

Yes. We can pick up from storage facilities, load items into our truck, and deliver them to your new address. Just provide the storage facility details and access instructions when you book.

How do you protect floors and walls during a move?

Our crews use floor runners, door frame protectors, and furniture pads to minimize the risk of scuffs, dents, and scratches. For older floors or high-end finishes, let your coordinator know in advance so we can bring appropriate protective materials.

What if my move takes longer than estimated?

Hourly moves are billed for actual time worked. If the job runs longer due to factors outside our control — unexpected access issues, elevator delays, or additional items — we will communicate the update before continuing. There are no hidden overtime penalties.

Do you move vehicles, motorcycles, or boats?

We do not transport personal vehicles, motorcycles, or watercraft as part of a standard move. For vehicle transport, we can refer you to a licensed auto transport carrier that handles those logistics separately.

Can I pack my own boxes and have you transport them?

Absolutely. Many customers prefer to pack non-fragile items themselves and have us handle the heavy lifting and transport. Just make sure boxes are sealed, labeled, and stacked safely. Liability for self-packed boxes is limited, so use sturdy materials.

What happens if the moving truck cannot park close to my building?

If the truck cannot park directly at the entrance, our crew will use a long-carry approach to move items the additional distance. Long carries may affect the time needed to complete the move. Let us know about any parking restrictions in advance so we can plan accordingly.

Do you charge extra for moving on weekends or holidays?

Weekend availability is common and scheduling is flexible. Rates may vary slightly on peak weekend dates or holidays depending on demand. Your coordinator will confirm applicable rates when you book your specific date.

How should I label my boxes to make unpacking easier?

Write the destination room and a brief contents description on at least two sides of every box. Color-coded labels or markers per room make it even faster for movers to place boxes correctly. Marking fragile items clearly on the top and sides also helps the crew handle them with extra care.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my move?

Life happens. We ask for as much notice as possible if you need to change your date — ideally 48 hours or more. Rescheduling is usually straightforward depending on availability. Cancellation policies vary, so your coordinator will walk you through the terms when you book.
